여호와께서 욥의 말년에 욥에게 처음보다 더 복을 주시니-욥기 42:12
일 년 중 봄은 하나님이 우리에게 만물이 언제나 보이는 대로가 아니라는 것을 기억나게 해주시는 시기입니다. 희망 없이 죽은 듯 보였던 것들이 짧은 몇 주 만에 다시 살아나고, 황폐했던 삼림지대가 다채로운 풍경으로 변합니다. 겨울 내내 옷을 입혀달라고 간청하듯, 벌거벗은 가지들을 하늘로 뻗쳤던 나무들이 레이스를 단 초록색 가운으로 갑작스럽게 치장되고, 추위에 시들어 땅에 떨어졌던 꽃들이 죽음에 맞서 대지로부터 서서히 올라옵니다.
성경에서도 우리는 전혀 희망이 없어 보이는 상황들을 봅니다. 하나님이 ‘온전한 자’라 불렀던 부자 욥의 경우가 그 한 예입니다(욥 2:3). 재난이 닥쳐 욥은 그에게 소중했던 모든 것을 잃어버렸습니다. 고통 가운데 그는 “나의 날은…희망 없이 보내는구나”(7:6)라고 말하였습니다. 욥과 그의 친구들에게는 하나님이 욥에게서 등을 돌린 것처럼 보였지만 사실은 정반대였습니다. 하나님은 욥의 온전함에 큰 확신을 가지고 계셨기에 사탄과의 싸움에서도 그를 신뢰하셨습니다. 나중에 욥의 소망과 그의 삶은 다시 새롭게 되었습니다.
매년 어김없이 찾아오는 봄은 희망 없어 보이는 상황에 처해 있을 때에도 내게 위로를 가져다줍니다. 하나님과 함께라면 절망은 없습니다. 나의 삶의 전경이 아무리 황폐해 보일지라도, 하나님은 그것을 여러 색채와 향기로 가득 찬 화려한 정원으로 바꾸어주실 것입니다.
[FROM BLEAK TO BEAUTIFUL]
The LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning. —Job 42:12
Spring is the time of year when God reminds us that things are not always as they seem. Over the course of a few short weeks, what appears hopelessly dead comes to life. Bleak woodlands are transformed into colorful landscapes. Trees whose naked arms reached to heaven all winter, as if pleading to be clothed, suddenly are adorned with lacy green gowns. Flowers that faded and fell to the ground in surrender to the cold rise slowly from the earth in defiance of death.
In Scripture, we read about some apparently hopeless situations. One example is that of a wealthy man named Job whom God described as havnig integrity (Job 2:3). Disaster struck and Job lost everything important to him. In misery, he said, “My days are . . . spent without hope” (7:6). What appeared to Job and his friends as evidence that God had turned against him was just the opposite. God was so confident of Job’s integrity that He trusted him in this battle with Satan. Later, Job’s hope and life were renewed.
The faithful arrival of spring every year comforts me when I’m in a situation that seems hopeless. With God, there is no such thing. No matter how bleak the landscape of life may look, God can transform it into a glorious garden of color and fragrance. —Julie Ackerman Link
하나님, 우리의 믿음이 새로워지게 하소서
더 큰 믿음으로 모든 일을 행하게 하시고
결코 꺾이지 않는 희망을 허락하시고
하나님의 자비하심으로 승리하게 하소서
하나님과 함께라면 가장 절망적인 상황에서도 소망이 있다.

For greater trust in all we do,
For hope that never knows defeat,
