이 모든 것 위에 사랑을 더하라 이는 온전하게 매는 띠니라-골로새서 3:14
인기 있는 옷가게에서는 점원들이 진열장의 모델처럼 옷을 입고 일을 하게 합니다. 이러한 영업방식을 “자기 브랜드 지키기”라고 부릅니다. 고객들이 그 옷을 입은 그 점원들의 모습을 보고 자기도 그렇게 보이고 싶어서 구매가능성이 높아진다는 것입니다.
소비자중심의 문화 속에 사는 우리는 아름다운 사람이 입고 있는 것을 입으면 우리도 남들로부터 같은 인정을 받을 수 있다는 생각에 빠지기가 쉽습니다. 상점들은 우리로 하여금 멋지게 보이는 것이 중요하다고 믿게 합니다.
우리도 때로는 세상 사람들에게 매력적으로 보여야 그들을 하나님께로 인도할 수 있다고 확신하기도 합니다. 그러나 성경은 하나님께 진정으로 중요한 것이 무엇인지를 분명히 보여주고 있습니다. 하나님은 우리의 성품이 예수님 같아 보이기를 원하십니다. 우리가 예수님의 형상을 본받았기에, 어떤 의미에서는 예수님이 우리의 “상표”입니다(롬 8:29). 우리가 예수님의 성품, 즉 긍휼과 자비와 겸손과 온유와 오래 참음을 옷 입고(골 3:12) 이 모든 것 위에 사랑을 더할 때(14절), 우리는 다른 사람들을 그리스도께로 인도할 수 있습니다.
우리는 우리 자신의 모습을 가꾸고 지키는 대신, 그리스도를 통해 우리 안에 온전해진 하나님의 모습을 지키고 보여줘야 합니다.
[GUARD YOUR BRAND]
Above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. —Colossians 3:14
Apopular clothing retailer requires that its sales clerks dress like the models in the store windows who advertise its clothes. This practice is referred to as “guarding their brand.” The idea behind it is that shoppers will be more likely to purchase clothes because they will want to look like the people they see wearing them.
In a consumer-oriented culture, it’s easy to be seduced into thinking that we can “buy” acceptance by wearing the things that beautiful people wear. Retailers would have us believe that looking good will make us desirable.
Sometimes we even convince ourselves that we can win followers for God by making ourselves attractive to the world. But the Bible is clear about what’s really important to God. He wants us to look like Jesus in our character. In a sense, Jesus is our “brand,” for we are being conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29). We attract others to Christ when we put on His attributes, which include tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering (Col. 3:12), and, above all, love (v.14).
Instead of polishing and protecting our own image, we need to be guarding and reflecting the image of God, which is being perfected in us through Christ. —Julie Ackerman Link
