범사에 감사하라-데살로니가전서 5:18

 

내 딸에게는 땅콩 알레르기가 있습니다. 너무 예민해서 아주 작은 땅콩 부스러기만 먹어도 생명이 위협받습니다. 그래서 우리는 음식의 포장지에 적힌 성분표시를 꼼꼼히 살펴봅니다. 어디를 가더라도 알레르기 반응치료를 위한 주사기를 가지고 다니며, 외식을 할 때는 식당에 미리 전화해서 직원에게 메뉴에 대해 물어봅니다.

 

이렇게 조심하지만 나는 여전히 딸아이의 현재와 미래의 안전에 대해 걱정이 됩니다. 이 상황은 내가 자연스레 감사할 수 있는 부분은 아닙니다. 그러나 하나님의 말씀은 이렇게 나에게 도전을 줍니다. “범사에 감사하라 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라”(살전 5:18). 회피할 방도가 없습니다. 하나님은 미래가 불확실하거나 마음이 아파올 때, 또는 재정적으로 부족할 때에도 우리가 감사하며 기도하기를 원하십니다.

 

어려울 때 감사하기란 쉽지 않지만, 그러나 불가능하지는 않습니다. 다니엘은 그의 목숨이 위험에 처한 줄 알고도 “기도하며…감사”(단 6:10)하였습니다. 요나는 물고기 뱃속에 있는 동안 “감사하는 목소리로”(욘 2:9) 외쳤습니다. 이 예들은 하나님께서 모든 것이 합력하여 우리의 선과 그분의 영광을 이루게 하실 것이라는(롬 8:28) 하나님의 약속과 어우러져 범사에 감사하도록 우리를 고무시켜 줍니다.

 

[THANKFUL IN ALL THINGS]

In everything give thanks.—1 Thessalonians 5:18

 

My daughter is allergic to peanuts. Her sensitivity is so acute that eating even the tiniest fragment of a peanut threatens her life. As a result, we scrutinize food package la-bels. We carry a pre-filled syringe of medicine (to treat allergic reactions) wherever we go. And, when we eat out, we call ahead and quiz the wait staff about the restaurant’s menu items.

 

Despite these precautions, I still feel concerned—both for her current safety and for her future safety. This situation is not something I would naturally be thankful about. Yet, God’s Word challenges: “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thess. 5:18). There’s no getting around it. God wants us to pray with thanksgiving when the future is uncertain, when heartbreak hits, and when shortfalls come.

 

It’s hard to be grateful in difficulties, but it’s not impossible. Daniel “prayed and gave thanks” (Dan. 6:10), knowing that his life was in danger. Jonah called out “with the voice of thanksgiving” (Jonah 2:9) while inside a fish! These examples, coupled with God’s promise that He will work all things together for our good and His glory (Rom. 8:28), can inspire us to be thankful in all things. —Jennifer Benson Schuldt

하나님이 우리를 혼자 버려두시지 않으셨기에 모든 상황 속에서 감사할 수 있다.

In all circumstances, we can give thanks that God has not left us on our own.
